Import and Export Measurement Data with FAMOS
FAMOS is measurement data analysis software with import and export filters for technical formats such as MDF4, CSV, Excel, MATLAB, HDF5, Apache Parquet, TDMS and WAV. Engineers can transfer measurement channels between systems while retaining metadata such as units, timestamps and channel names. Configurable filters and a CSV assistant simplify recurring and unfamiliar data workflows.
Import Measurement Data from Different Systems
Measurement data is often generated by different acquisition systems, test benches, simulation tools and analysis applications. FAMOS supports numerous standard and vendor-specific file formats, helping engineering teams bring data from different sources into one analysis environment.
Depending on the selected format and filter, measurement values can be imported together with relevant information such as:
- Channel names
- Physical units
- Timestamps
- Channel properties
- Measurement metadata
This reduces the need for manual conversion and helps maintain important context throughout the analysis workflow.
Import CSV, TXT and ASCII Measurement Data
CSV and text files can differ considerably in structure. Separators, headers, timestamps, units and channel names may be stored differently depending on the source system.
The FAMOS File Assistant supports the import of unfamiliar CSV, TXT and ASCII files. It helps identify:
- Where the measurement values begin
- Whether values are separated by commas, semicolons or tabs
- How timestamps are formatted
- Where channel names and units are stored
- How columns should be assigned to measurement channels
This makes it easier to prepare differently structured text files for further measurement data analysis.
Automate Recurring Data Imports
FAMOS Data Source Management helps engineers organize recurring import workflows.
File extensions and import filters can be assigned to individual data directories. When new measurements are added, FAMOS can apply the appropriate settings automatically, allowing users to load regularly generated data with only a few steps.
This is particularly useful for:
- Repeated test-bench measurements
- Automated validation processes
- Measurements from several acquisition systems
- Standardized project directories
- Large collections of similarly structured files
Import and Decode Fieldbus Data
FAMOS can import fieldbus log data from systems including CAN, CAN FD, FlexRay, LIN and XCP over Ethernet.
Description files such as DBC, ARXML, LDF, FRY, CBA or FDB can be added to decode the recorded bus messages automatically. Engineers can also filter the available channels using wildcards or regular expressions and import only the signals required for the current analysis.
When a log file already contains an embedded frame description, as supported by certain imc RAW files, an additional description file may not be necessary.
Work with Metadata and ASAM Formats
FAMOS supports technical data formats that contain structured measurement metadata.
For example, data imported through the ASAM ODS ATFXML filter can include metadata that FAMOS assigns to user-defined channel properties. FAMOS also supports widely used engineering formats such as ASAM MDF4 and ATFX NVH.
This helps retain technical context when measurement data is exchanged between acquisition, testing, simulation and analysis systems.
Extend Import and Export Workflows with Python
File formats that are not covered by the supplied filters can be integrated through Python scripts.
This enables engineering teams to create individual import or export workflows for formats such as Pickle or for proprietary data structures used in internal tools and automated processing environments.
Supported Import and Export Filters
The following table lists the file filters supplied with FAMOS, including the associated file extensions and the available import or export options.
Use the list to check whether a particular measurement format is supported. Import and export availability may differ depending on the format and installed FAMOS edition.
